Blessed Are Those Who Sit
"Blessed Are Those Who Sit" was a solo created in close collaboration with Jesse den Dulk for the fourth Biarteca Festival in Rosazza, Italy. Inspired by the Roy Andersson film "Songs from the Second Floor" and the poetry of Cesar Vallejo, the intention for the piece was to create a tragicomic story about a modern, western man determined to go forward... without really understanding why or where he was going. because of the resulting exhaustion he seeks a place to sit and find rest. however, he has been so condtitioned in going forward that the action of sitting or resting is agonizingly painful. finally, he cries out "ai ai ai" as he falls further and further backward down the dark tunnel from which he came. performer: Jesse den Dulk sound: Joris Jan Bos |
