Talk About Coincidence

"Talk About Coincidence" (june 2002) was a dance experiment in which five dancers - Cyril Baldy, Lydia Bustinduy, Vaclav Kunes, Kay Patru and Lesley Telford - were sent into the space using sound cues. each dancer was given seven cues which were linked to a movement, series of movements or a stage direction. by giving the dancers their cues, i created an on the spot choreography allowing for coincidence, surprise, improvization and a few magic moments.

the sound - a collage of lines from a poem recited by the dancers - wrapped the movement as i sent them into the space.

the start and end of slumber

brown-eyed convincing stare

and hear the detail

searching for the gate

which leads me to cowless pastures

a little less conspicuous

square protals through the roof

and raggae gaurdian angels

flowing unison of feathered landscape

strange looks from a youth

dreaming crazy dreams

winnie the pooh at 20 euro 95

in a wave upon the wind

as i try to hide within my black hat

talk about coincidence

of bicycles in supermarkets

i spent most of the night awake

a way past check-out cues

sailing like boats on songs

vowing always: they will come

of thunderous beat

16 degrees seems cooler than it feels

newspaper lies untidy

hear the whisper of the finest texture

the contours of my view
