Il Grido - the Shout
Biarteca Festival 2008
"Il Grido" - or "the shout" - was created for the 2008 Biarteca Festival in Rosazza Italy as a continuing investigation into spatial situations and those who fill them.
The piece is created for the space as it was found during a walk around the village of Rosazza. Three benches in a park under two trees by a raging river and a road. One of the most inspiring aspects of the Biarteca Festival is its location. A tiny village nestled between mountainous peaks. A river runs through and past the village, always the same, always different. More than most places, it feels as if this is the essence of Rosazza - it seems on the one hand to remain as it was and on the other to never be the same. The mountains, the river, the road and the benches seem to have a permanent character. The people who sit on the benches change with the times. Yet even the people start to take on a permanent nature as they might sit every day reading on the same spot the years passing obliviously. The piece contains these elements as well. The permanence on the one hand and the ephemeral moment on the other. With the village as their backdrop, three characters walk and sit the same old patterns: meeting, passing, joining, separating... until... and then it's back to normal again...
Performing in "Il Grido" are Alexander Ekman, Ayman Harper and Jesse den Dulk.
