Scene in a Silent Space

"Scene in a Silent Space" was created for the 2007 Biarteca Festival in Rosazza, Italy.

the idea for the piece derives from a fascination of place and location and how individuals relate to this concept. it is a study of how we relate to a unique space in the past and future as well as our relationship to it in the moment. the piece attempts to create a silence through which the viewer is encouraged to experience the space on an intenser sensory level.

it imagines that a space is filled with a substance that records everything which has occured there as well as forming a potential for events to happen in the future. the performers move through the space according to a prearranged structure with the intention to listen for these events as they happen in the moment and eventually creating a physical interpretation of it.

"scene in a silent space" can happen anywhere, anytime but this particular version takes place in one of the many small alleys of Rosazza with natural light and its existing sounds. the concentration and the minimal movement of the performers as they create simple compositions in the space allow the viewer to create a personal relationship with it.

it is my intention to create more of these 'compositions in time and space' in the future on different locations.

performers: Jesse den Dulk and Fabienne Vegt.
