Silence Never Calls Out

It is easy to lose yourself in the frustration of every day reality with its noisy undirected chatter and judging eyes of an opinionated world. It is quite the quest to find a place of silence where you can return to the essence of what is valuable. "Silence Never Calls Out" presents an internal journey to find the essence of a quiet place and what might be discovered during such an investigation. Is it true that there is always an absence of silence and is it only in silence that one can find an essence of truth?

Exerpt from a review in Dance Europe by Bruce Michelson

"In Silence Never Calls Out, choreographer Edd Schouten and Kay Patru, a rather gangly and atypical ex-NDT2 dancer, have created an intriguinly subtle yet utterly compelling male solo that seemed to draw the entire public into an internal world full of unspeakable emotional intensity. Oblique and barely perceptible impulses set off primordial twitches and an evolutionary crecendo of "skeletal" physicality that in turn provoked oddly self-reflective responses; fingers searched in vain through the heavily laden space, in this, the last new work ever to fill the frame of Korzo's church studio. A student of photography when he discovered dance, Schouten retains a keen eye for detail, and his choreography owes much to both contemporary portraiture and a sort of progressive hyper-realism. The result was a highly understated yet powerful and obsorbing 20-minute work, almost cinematic in nature, with an abundance of beautiful photographic imagery along the way."
